It’s no mystery that life can be freaking brutal. It can throw you many curve balls, but it’s all about how you handle the pitch. Everything from finances to relationships is part of the challenge. And if you are paying attention, you will quickly learn if you are playing the game of life or if the game of life is playing you.

So many go through life trying to portray an image to the outside world that doesn’t exist. They do nothing more than show the world what they “think” they want to see. All while they hide their true self behind a superficial image that is slowly devouring their soul.

Over the last five years, I was a volunteer in a very painful, abusive relationship. As a result, I have learned more about myself in the previous five years than in my first 40. Some of it is unpleasant, and some I welcome with open arms.

Below are some things I’ve learned, and I continue to try and put into action in every aspect of my life.

  • Listen to the critiques of those you trust.
  • Quickly get rid of those that show you they are untrustworthy, and don’t look back.
