I’ve spent the last 25 years focusing on others for the better part of my 48 years in existence. I especially had a hyper-focus on my past 3 exes. Focusing on others’ problems is much easier than addressing your own. It’s also a great way to project your character defects onto them. It’s almost like your issues no longer exist after you put all the focus on a partner’s problems and what they need to change and not you.

Even in the most toxic of relationships, we all play our part in them. Your part could be as simple as staying and waiting for them to change when you know it will never happen, at least not any time in the future.

I spent years trying to change in others what I need to change in myself. This is a trait I’ve carried for quite some time and just recently became aware of within the last year or so.

Many also use other behaviors to mask the lack of self-respect they have for themselves. The lack of self-worth can come from many behaviors and actions, and I have narrowed mine to these 9.

  • Relationships: You will pick a person that mistreats you and accept it. You may even chase the very person that has proven to be untrustworthy.
