A Short Message on How Forgiveness Works
I had it backwards for years, and still struggle.
Dear Me,
That person, or version of yourself you had to create to fight the battle wasn’t about winning, it was about surviving. You did just that. While you aren’t thriving quite just yet, you are making ground.
Don’t stop.
You now have the tools to see the character defects in yourself, as well as toxic traits more quickly in those in the future, as well as your own.
The harsh, sometimes insane person you created to survive isn’t the same person needed to continue the journey from here. That version of yourself you have to “let go” of, more than any other person in your life. Once you realize, and are able to do this, the more “life” begins to make sense, although it still won’t be easy. It’s where true forgiveness happens.
The war will always be there, so will tough times, and the wrong people will still make appearances, but you are better equipped to know how to handle it without the “war veteran” you created that you are now putting to rest.
I’m still in the midst of the war myself.
I finally realized I was fighting to WIN, and there’s nothing to be won. It’s in the fight to win is where I lost myself a little…
