Did The Ex Narcissist in Your Life Ever Care About You?
Possibly in their own way, but not the way you think
There’s a lot of things I question, and that’s one of them.
I also believe the word is thrown around too much. The more I read on here and Quora, I ask myself, “Are there this many Narcissists in the world?”
I mean, I guess there could be.
Often, personality disorders can be confused with many other traits, for one, just being an uncaring asshole or someone that suffers from an addiction. People with addictions can exhibit many Narcissistic traits. A Narcissist can’t be diagnosed while actively using a substance. If you look at addicts behaviors, they share many, many Narcissistic traits. It is impossible to get a true diagnosis while actively using.
I’d say the best option is to flip this question onto yourself.
“Have you ever cared about yourself?”
Because in reality, this is the bigger question. I’m sure the Narcissist in your life cared about you in their own distorted way. They really do believe they love you. That’s why very few will seek treatments. They see you as the problem, not them.
You can label a behavior or personality any way you want. But most won’t look in the mirror and question…
