How do You Know if You’re a Good Writer?
There’s a complex answer to a simple question
I guess the simple answer would be if you have a large following and are making money. But do all good writers have a large following and make money? No. Are there very mediocre writers with a large following and make buckets of cash? There sure are.
So, what makes a good writer? For me, I think it’s authenticity and writing about something of passion. Once you have those two things and you are “consistent” with what you write, success will come, I believe. Some will get there quicker than others.
Once I started writing about Narcissism, my following blew up. I’ve mentioned it before in other articles; I started on Quora. I also write on life lessons, psychology and relationships. They all kind of co-exist in the realms of Narcissism.
I was getting 2–300 followers a day for a while, then once I hit 10K it slowed down. As of now I am getting 5 million views a month. Medium has been slower; I get between 200 and 400 followers a month.
Do I think I’m a good writer? That’s a good question. At times I think I am, but if I’m not getting loads of follows, comments, claps, and views, it hits me in my “insecurity meter,” it doesn’t feel good. I knew I was insecure, but not to this extent.
