I believe many are ashamed of what they are allowing to happen. Especially if it’s a guy. Men aren’t the ones being cheated on and manipulated; it’s the men that do that. Although, women are being called out more and more.
In the beginning, I hid a lot of what my ex was doing, but after a few months, I couldn’t hide it anymore. I couldn’t make sense of it alone.
But then, I started getting negative support. No one could understand why I couldn’t leave. That’s when I began to isolate myself. I rarely saw family, and never hung out with friends; it’s almost like I was making excuses and projecting on to my family because I couldn’t attend birthdays or family events. I made my family feel like shit because they asked me to attend. I would ignore them or sometimes lash out. When it had nothing to do with them for the most part.
My family can be overbearing at times, but I am working on my reactions and boundaries. But how I avoided them due to an abusive relationship wasn’t right; it was wrong.
