Understanding The Risks of Seeking Help From The Wrong Therapist

Therapy is the easy part, finding a qualified therapist is a whole other story.

Twenty-two years ago my ex wife and I were in marriage counseling. We were separated at the time, and going to two separate therapist in the same practice.

We would each go once a week, then every 4 to 6 weeks, meet up to do a group session with each of our therapist.

The issue

On the day of our group session I was really looking forward to it. There were some very important things I needed to be discussed.

I arrive at the session, and my ex-wife and I went into her therapist office and had a seat. We made small talk with her therapist as we were waiting on mine to arrive.

I really needed this guy that day. I had been going to him for a year at this point. Ten minutes in, he still isn’t there. Her therapist calls him, no answer. I call him, no answer. This was very odd, he was always punctual with our sessions over the year.

After 30 minutes I leave. There is no need to have a one sided session as it’s apparent my therapist was a no show.

Wondering what happened
