Why is What We do For a Living More Important Than Who We Are as a Person?
As long as your career and income pass the initial question you are accepted
I drive Uber here in Cincinnati, Ohio. A particular group of passengers asks this question every damn time without fail! It’s their first question, almost always. They love to ask, “So, what else do you do for a living?” What are they saying? Driving Uber isn’t enough? Maybe I’m taking it personally, but I don’t think so.
In my opinion, people ask this question to get an idea of how to treat you. My ex’s Mom was great at this. Always worried how many hours I worked, if I was paying for things with her daughter when we went out, how much I was making, and how busy I was. It was so damn annoying to the point I didn’t want to go around her family. Yes, her Dad was a doctor, and I’m still not sure what her Mom did; I heard an English teacher. And that’s another issue. My ex’s daughter would correct the way I spoke at times. I couldn’t wear a baseball hat in the house, and it was nerve-wracking on my part. I couldn’t be me; I felt like I had to be someone they expected me to be when I am ME!
I treated her daughter like gold before her cheating, lying, and manipulation started. After all that, I tried, but I couldn’t take it. It was one lie after…
