Your Morning Routine Could be Keeping You Stuck
How you morning is planned determines the outcome of your day.
It’s 4 am and the quiet chime of my alarm clock rings. I roll over, grab my phone and turn it off. I take a quick glance at the time to make sure I didn’t unknowingly hit the snooze button while dazed. Great! It’s 4:01 am, so I sit up on the edge of the bed, rub my eyes, stretch and guess what? I begin to think.
The familiar thoughts begin
That’s the first thing most of us do when we wake up in the morning. And whatever your first thoughts of the morning are will set the tone for your day.
I don’t know about you, but I begin to think about my problems. Memories are wired in the brain, generally to certain people, places, and things in the past. So, the minute I wake up, I’m already living in the past, and with these thoughts, my day starts.
These people, places, and things will trigger emotions. These emotions are tied to the pain that began with these thoughts from the past. I have a habit of gravitating to what is familiar, even if the familiar is pain. So, I wake up, and I am already living in the past to start my morning.
